Read and Like Saturday with Michaela Rhua

Take it away Mik...

Hi Raven.

Thank you for having me on your blog today.

So what do I read and like…well I thought I would take you through a short history of my developing reading tastes. I say developing because I like to try new genres to stretch my mind.

I enjoyed books as a child but I can't say I was a book worm, but I was always encouraged to read.

The very first book I bought was The Lord of the Rings, which I bought second hand from the library. I had heard it was a good book/classic etc so begged my sister to lend me the money to buy it. That started my love for fantasy/paranormal – I loved the way Tolkien created this new world, it was all so believable.

The library opened new doors – doors to new worlds, Romance through Barbara Cartland and Mills and Boon, Classics through Austen, Dickens and Shakespeare.

At school we studied To Kill A Mockingbird. I LOVE this book. It is my all time favourite book. The theme of prejudice, hypocrisy, growing up and change are so powerful.

Recently my son has had to read it to prep for studying it so it has rekindled my love for it again.

I loved trotting through lists of must read books, all heavy tomes and deeply meaningful.

In more recent times, well I rediscovered fantasy and paranormal through JR Ward, Gena Showalter, and others such as Lara Adrian and am in the process of reading her Breed series. I love the way these writers set their stories in the world we can recognise but show us parallel or undercover community of shifters, vampires and warriors.

I like to pepper what my reading time with other genres just to stretch my mind and discover how other writers structure their stories and characters. I love words and they way others use them so I read widely to absorb the creativity of others.

Thanks again Raven…sorry it turned into more of a rambles through my likes!

It was a great ramble, R

Excerpt – Scars by Kiru Taye
"There's something I need to show you in our suite upstairs."
The corners of his mouth lifted in a boyish grin as the lift doors opened. Her gaze fixated on his lips—sensuously full, they were a mix of firmness on the edges and softness on the inside—and she wondered if he would kiss her.
Her pulse rate skyrocketed as they rode up and he pulled her into the circle of his arms. He looked so handsome in his fitted charcoal suit, broad torso tapering at the hips. Leaning this closely to him, his taut muscles beneath the soft silk fabric offered protection as well as a glimpse of the possession to come. With her head on his shoulder, his all-male spice permeated her pores with every breath she took.
"You do know we can't leave our guests at the reception just for a quickie," she said. Tilting her head so she could see his face, she curled her lips in an I'd-like-you-to-take-me smile. Her womb contracted in agreement.
Truth was, she needed to get laid—the hot, fast, sweaty kind. Since she agreed to marry Ben they hadn't been together, not even for a hand job. The mad rush to organise a wedding ceremony in such a short period of time, his insistence for her to move her things into his waterside penthouse apartment in Chelsea, combined with a pretty hefty schedule at work for both of them had left little time for anything else.
"Who says we can't?"
He kissed her, a ruthless sweep of his tongue and demand of his lips. She clutched the lapels of his jacket, hanging on as sensation assaulted her.
Beneath her dress, her lacy thong got soaked as she squirmed against him. She'd worn the skimpy underwear to avoid panty-lines showing through her dress. Perhaps she should've chosen something sturdier like French knickers.
When he lifted his head, she was breathless, panting.
"Ben?" she asked when she finally got her voice back.
The dark colour of his suit emphasised the intensity of his eyes and complemented his tanned skin. With his South African heritage, his skin tone was always on the golden side, despite the recent bad weather and lack of sunshine.
"No. But I've got the next best thing for you."
They stepped out of the lift, and he opened the door to the bridal suite. She followed him in, heart pounding in excitement.
"By the time the reception is over, you'll be begging me to fuck you."

Yee Haaa and lets play with anacronisms... BDSM anyone?

Oh, and I have a book out...I <3 this cover...

I was having a conversation with my characters—as you do. Well as I and other character-led pantsters do anyway.

Felicity, who is the heroine of this book, (you know Nash's Niche, the one that's out today, book four in the Behind Closed Doors Series) was muttering about anacronisms.

BDSM she said and giggled. Does that mean, Big, Demanding, Strong, Male?

At which point Kath, from my WIP, who'd been reading Felicity's story, rolled her eyes. Ha, more like Bloody, Demanding, Sexy, Man.

This made me giggle, becasue they both know fine well what BDSM stands for and in their own world enjoy it. But it also got me thinking. How many of us make anacronisms up? Sometines in the most peculiar way.

For instance the first car my parents owned when I was a child had the letters FCM. My dad called it 'first car made'. Mum and I argued it stood for First Class Model!

Then there was the famous chocolate bar that in the UK awarded you the CDM. Not to mention my own descrition of one of the lovely Doris O'Connors long winded goes on for ever need to take a breath and can't run on sentences. A DDS. Deady Doris Sentence. We've even got editors using that one now.

And how many of us can own up to using initials to describe our partner, our pets or our toys? Yeah those pesky initials come in handy don't they?

TTFN

and woo hoo it's almost TGIF....

oh and PS I have a book out.... LMAO

10 things...and a Wild West Promise...

Come on in and check 'em out...

Ten Things About… Kent & Maggie from ‘Wild West Promise’

C.R. Moss asks the characters of Wild West Promise ten questions and receives some interesting answers!

10. What do you do for a living?
~ Kent: Wrangler at the Double D ranch.
~ Maggie: A nurse, but I work more on the administrative side now.

9. Where are you from originally?
~ Kent: Nevada.
~ Maggie: The east coast.

8. Would you go on one of the ghost hunting tours down in the city?
~ Kent: Why would I when we have enough ghosts on the ranch to entertain?
~ Maggie: **shivers** Don’t know if I should. Spirits love to talk to me too much.

7. You two obviously believe in life on the other side of the veil, so do you also believe in aliens and UFO’s? Being so close to Rachel, NV, Area 51, and the Extraterrestrial Highway, and all...
~ Kent: I’d have to see one to believe in one.
~ Maggie: Same here.

6. Okay. Gotcha. How ‘bout we get back to the smexing… What attracts you most to a potential mate?
~ Kent: Confidence, beauty, a bit of assertiveness and sass.
~ Maggie: A rugged handsomeness, loyal disposition, intelligence.

5. What body part do you like most on a person?
~ Kent: Breasts and legs are a tie with me.
~ Maggie: I have a tie as well but between eyes and ass.

4. What’s the sexiest thing you’ve noticed about your partner?
~ Kent: The intensity of her gaze when she looks at me, especially when she looks at me like I’m a horse at a show.
~ Maggie: His palatable, designed-for-pleasure masculine form.

3. Have you ever had sex outdoors?
~ Kent: Been on ranches my whole life so yep. I really like the cave clubhouse you and I—
~ Maggie: Hush, Kent. **shakes head** You and that cave.
C.R.: So, Maggie, I gather from the pink in your cheeks and from what Kent just said your answer is yes?
~ Maggie: Yes it is.

2. If laws and restrictions weren’t an issue, where would you like to have sex?
~ Kent: Anywhere my lady wants.
~ Maggie: On a beach.
~ Kent: Really? You know… The family has an estate in the Caymans. They’d probably let us stay for a spell, and we could cross that off your bucket list. Or we can put a sandbox in the cave. **waggles brows and gets a narrowed gaze from Maggie**

1. **clears throat** If you could spend a naked weekend with your partners, would you?
~ Kent: As she already knows, I’m game. In fact, the Dougan clubhouse is calling our names.
**smiles and nudges Maggie with an elbow**
~ Maggie: **blushes** Kent, darling, we’ll discuss going back to the cave later. **looks at interviewer, winks and nods**

Get Wild!
~ Blurb for Wild West Promise – a Romance on the Go story from Evernight Publishing ~
(Book Content: Contemporary, Erotic, Romance on the Go, Western; M/F)
Times are wild on the Double D, and one ranch hand is in for the ride of a lifetime.
* Maggie O’Hurley doesn’t know her life is about to change. After visiting the ranch to attend a friend’s bachelorette party, she meets a wrangler named Kent. Her immediate attraction to him revs up her libido, and she plans to do what’s needed to snag the sexy cowboy…including making a decision she never thought she would again.
*
Kent Samuels hasn’t been with a woman in ages. When a bewitching redhead steps into his path, his world tilts. She’s all he can think of. He doesn’t know if he’s able to give her forever, but he will give her what time he has. Once he does, he knows he can’t let her go.
* Past experiences war with ideas for the future, but can the pair make promises they can keep?

~ Excerpt ~
* The entrance to the cave had the most vivid red rock she’d ever seen. Cascading colors of orange, dark brown, and shades of grey slipped by beneath her as she climbed the ladder after Kent. When they’d reached the inside, he walked to a plywood wall that read Boys Only in big black letters. He opened a makeshift door, then slipped to the side allowing Maggie to enter full center.
* In awe, she cradled her sore thumb with her other hand and surveyed the space. “It’s quite the bachelor pad, wouldn’t you say?”
* Kent set the picnic satchel on a wooden table near a painted sign on the wall stating, ‘Girls stay out! This is the Dougan brothers’ place!’
* To the left of the table an array of ropes and riding crops of different shapes and sizes hung on the wall. Beneath them sat a chest with an engaged lock keeping it closed to inquiring minds. In the corner, a plastic crate full of flashlights and batteries lay next to a small generator. Something purple and wrinkly looking poked out of a hole of the bin. She screwed her mouth to the side and furrowed her forehead. Homing in on the item, she gained a better look and made an O shape with her mouth as understanding dawned.
* Kent glanced her way, down at the realistic looking dildo, and back at her. “The place caters to the grown Dougan men now.”
* No doubt. She advanced to the wall and ran her fingers through the dangling ropes. Stealing a look at Kent, she raised a brow. “I guess the stories about the Dougan men are true.”
* “They’re a feisty bunch for sure,” he muttered under his breath but loud enough for her to hear.
* “Feisty is good for the soul.” She made sure to lock gazes with him after the words left her throat.
