It's Bethday, today. A chance to find out about Beth D Cart's new book, The Scarlet Dove

Hi all,

I'm privileged to be able to show this gorgeous cover and give you some info about Beth's latest book, The Scarlet Dove

Blurb
Can Liza find her place in a lawless world?
When Liza Trent decided to become a mail order bride out west, she never imagined her fiancĂ© would die before she arrived. His death places her in debt, and the only way to pay off the money is by auctioning off her virginity against her will. When she’s rescued by two handsome men, she mistakenly thinks they’re assassins. Despite her reservations, she accepts their protection.
Only the two men, Apollo Beck and Blue Hawke, aren’t assassins. They’re Texas Rangers sent after a man who preys on women, and their dangerous hunt has just brought Liza into the line of fire.
Confused with the attraction she feels for two men, Liza has a difficult decision before her: commit to loving Apollo and Blue or commit to her burning desire to become a doctor…unless she’s found and taken for revenge first.

Content Warning: contains violence, strong language, and explicit sex scenes, including anal sex
Genre(s): Historical Romance / Menage

5 writing pet peeves that simply drive me insane…
1. Work.  Isn’t this the bane of every author’s life? By day I’m a pharmacy tech in a retail store, standing on my feet all day and dealing with many people. By the time I get home, my brain is fried.
2. Time. This harkens back to the work thing, where my brain is fried. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with having too much stuff going on in my life and not enough time to write. It can be so frustrating.
3. Social Media.  I spend way too much damn time flittering between Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
4. My muse.  I’m hard at work trying to write out a complicated and scene and she’s like “Wait!  I’ve got this awesome idea for another story!” Most of the time she wakes me up at three am.  Bitch.
5. Character changes.  Most of the time I can envision the beginning and ending to a story, but every once in a while the ending slips away, due to the direction of where the characters take me.  When that happens I struggle a lot to maintain the plot.  I’ve shelved some great stories because of this.

Excerpt

"It's him," Liza whispered in a hate-filled tone. "The man who tricked me."
"Reynolds," Blue spat.
"All three of you!" Reynolds screamed. "You'll pay! You'll pay for everything!"
The gun wavered in an unstable hand. Blue and Apollo glanced at each other and then charged forward. A shot exploded and Apollo went down. Blue tackled Reynolds to the ground. The two men rolled around, each trying to get the upper hand.
Apollo did his best to try to focus on the two men, but agony lanced through him as he tried to get to his feet. Black spots danced in front of his eyes, and he honestly didn't know how bad he was shot.
And then a pair of soft, steady hands took his away. "Let me see," Liza softly said.
"Uh," he moaned. "Blue—"
"Is holding his own," she interrupted him. Though she carefully probed, the pain rippled through Apollo, and he halted her hand. "You need medical help," she told him.
"Get Reynolds first," he panted.
Her eyebrows arched. "You know him?"
"I was sent to kill him."
Her mouth fell open, and she looked from him to where Blue still fought with Reynolds.
"There's a blade in my boot," he whispered, wiggling his right foot and bringing her attention back to him. "Give it to Blue."
She hesitated for only a second before reaching for the marked boot. He felt her hand slide in and grab the hilt. She slid it free and rose, turning to the fight that had attracted several people's attention.
"I have a knife, Blue!" she called out.
In a flash, Blue spun away from Reynolds and grabbed the knife from Liza's shaky hand. As he turned back, he let it fly. They watched as it flipped end over end and buried itself into Reynolds's shoulder, right where the arm and chest met. For a moment, no one moved. Then the confused crowd rushed to help Reynolds, who stumbled away, and Blue turned to grab Liza's hand and hurry over to Apollo.
"You need medical attention," he said without preamble, mimicking Liza's earlier statement.
"Not here," Apollo growled. "Help me up."
"You should rest," Liza said.
"You think anyone is going to help the people responsible for burning down half the town?" As he sat up with a gasp of pain, Blue let go of Liza's hand to help him stand. "Is Reynolds dead?"
They all looked at the small crowd that had moved in to help Reynolds when the blade had got him, only to see the crowd starting to point at them and talk. Reynolds was nowhere to be found.

A note from an absentee blogger, and a BIG shout out for a Doris and Raven paperback

That is me lately.

I've been remiss in blogging, in fact i've been remiss in a lot of things.

I'm still not quite up to par with all things writing. Dammit, I still go to talk to Doris O'Connor before I realise I can't do that any more.

If you see my lips moving and I appear to be arguing with myself, I'm doing both her and my side of any conversation we might have had and I know the outcome. Even if I am thinking I wonder if the outcome could be diff...no, okay. I can hear her in my mind!

Before you think, oh blimey, Raven's doing a woe is me blog, no I'm not. I'm actually doing a happy dance, oohh look isn't this fab sort of post.

Because The lovely Evernight Publishing have brought out our last joint book, The Tattoo Artist's Mate in paperback. along with The Good Bad Boy, and our time slip story, The Dukes Christmas Abductions.

To say I'm excited and over the moon is an understatement. And 'Volume one'!

Luckily I do have some more ides for Bare Alley Ink and those people who visit it or work there. Watch this space.

However for now, shameless link time...

#SundaySnippet with a Regency heroine who is at the end of her tether

Hi All welcome to my #SundaySnippet. Where as The Viscount Meets His Match is out next week I thought I should tease you from there...
(and it is an exceptionally great cover)

And a wee tease, where Josephine is hard pressed to be polite

Even with the lack of intrusive and in-depth queries, keeping her temper was at times a close run thing. After one elderly dowager had blatantly used her age and title to ask what came next, Josephine had to count to ten before she replied.
“The harpist, a quartet, supper and then Miss Jones on the piano,” she said with a composure she didn’t feel. “So, if you will excuse me, I will go and find somewhere to sit.” She curtsied and turned away before anything else was said. As soon as they’d arrived, her mama had behaved as usual and left Josephine to her own devices, so there was no one to call her out for her undoubted rude behavior.

you can find the book at Totally Bound or on Amazon

Happy reading,

#TakeoverTuesday would you be... Obediently Ever After...?

Yay, it's Tuesday and that means takeover day.

Today I'm really excited to introduce Measha Stone

and her new book,

Obediently Ever After

Obediently Ever After
By Measha Stone
Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RMJF8D5/
Amazon series link: TBD
Goodreads link:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45550801

Teaser Blurbs:
“I don’t blame you for giving up on me.” Give up on her? Never.
“Women that lie end up with very sore, red bottoms. Would you like to answer again?” Complete obedience will be rewarded. Naughty girls will be spanked.

Blurb:
A visit to the Annex was meant to be a night of fun. Something to relax me. Maybe I’d

find a girl, maybe I wouldn’t. I had very little expectations.
Until Angelica walked into the room looking like she stepped out of a 1952’s Home and Garden Magazine. It wasn’t just the sexy domestic style that caught my eye, it was more. I was drawn to her.
One night. A little fun. A little roleplay. But it wasn’t enough. I don’t think I could ever get enough of her.
But my pretty girl lied. She hides something from me, and I won’t accept that. She’ll learn. And when it’s all over. When I’ve saved her from the demons chasing her, I’ll truly make her mine.
And she’ll live obediently ever after.
Excerpt #1
“Someone like me?” she asked. What the hell did that mean?
“Yes. A woman who would like a man like me,” he said with a grin. His smile was genuine and warm, like it could shove all the chill from her soul if she let it.
“Oh.” She sat on the arm of the couch, crossing her ankles.
He laughed, a soft, low chuckle. Crossing the room, he sat on the couch, on the middle cushion. “Come here, Angel.” He put his hand out to her.
She slipped her hand into his, feeling the heat of his touch spread through her. He pulled gently until she moved from the arm of the couch to stand at his right leg.
“Lie across my lap.” He drew her down.
Right. The reason they were up in the suite. Her job. She needed to do her job. Get the money.

Excerpt #2
“Naughty girls get spankings, don’t they, Angelica?” he asked, rubbing her already-warm ass with his hands.
“Yes.” She nodded, sounding miserable.
“Do you think next time you’ll call a cab if you’ve had too much to drink?” he asked the back of her head. Her curls bobbed with another nod. “Answer me,” he said with a hard smack to her left thigh.

“Yes!” she called out.
“Good. Then we can move on to the lying portion of your punishment.” He didn’t delay another second and went about peppering her ass with harder smacks, concentrating on the delicate spot where her thighs met her ass.
“No! No!” She threw herself forward, and to the side, but he held her to him.
“The more you resist, the longer the spanking takes,” he admonished her and delivered three hard swats to the same spot.
She gasped for air and moaned. “No. Please. I already said I’m sorry.”
“And I already told you that doesn’t change the consequence.” He continued to sprinkle her ass until the slight pink darkened to a nice crimson.
She stopped fighting against him, not that it was working anyway. He could hear soft sobs escaping her, feel tension start to give way in her.
“You’ll take ten with my belt, and then you’ll spend ten minutes in the corner,” he announced after landing a hard smack to her thigh.
“The belt?” she cried. “I don’t think—”

“That’s the problem, Angel, you didn’t think. Hopefully, after you finish with the belt, you’ll remember to think before acting. Think before lying. Think how your actions have consequences. Because if you ever lie to me again, or I find out you lied to anyone else, you’ll be getting a hell of a lot more than ten with my belt. Am I understood?”
Tension eased out of her shoulders. “Yes. I understand.”

Excerpt #3
“What sort of contract are you willing to make tonight?” he asked boldly, not needing to finish the previous conversation. They would have that chat in private. With her skirts well above her waist.
“I—” Her eyes darted around the room. Could she be looking for an escape?

“If it’s easier, I’ll explain what I want, and you can go from there.” He downed the rest of his drink and placed it on the tray of a server walking between the guests.
“You want me?” she asked with more surprise than a woman as beautiful as she should harbor. How hadn’t there been a line of suitors waiting for her already?

“I want a full evening with you, in private, my home preferably. As for activities, I’m not into very heavy play. Mostly impact play, spankings with my hand, my belt. I have a few paddles if needed for a naughty girl. I want a woman who enjoys submission and agrees to being punished when she’s bad.”
Her entire lower lip disappeared into her mouth.
He reached out and pulled it free with his thumb. “I want someone to follow my rules to the letter and accept a bare bottom spanking if she fails.” Images of her lying over his lap with a blushing ass popped into his head.
If her pupils dilated much more, he wouldn’t be able to make out the coloring of her irises.

#TuesdayTakeover where... forgiven are the starry eyed

NB it discusses abuse

Hi all, it's #TuesdayTakeover again. I do love seeing what my guests come up with.

This week, Christine Dore Miller is on the takeover table, with some info about Forgiven Are the Starry-Eyed, her Young Adult book. Which can (and should IMO) be read by us oldies as well!

Over to you Christine.

Title: Forgiven Are the Starry-Eyed

Published by: Evernight Teen

Publication date: April 26, 2019

Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult

Synopsis: Naive sixteen-year-old Andrea Cavanaugh is elated when Josh, a charismatic, bright-eyed piano prodigy, becomes her first boyfriend. But the closer she gets to him, the more she realizes that he is not the boy she first fell for. In its poignancy and emotional darkness, Forgiven Are the Starry-Eyed takes you deep into the delicate and devastating web of shame that spirals from the depths of dating violence when dreamy teenage love turns dark. Andrea must find not only an escape, but a belief that she is even worthy of freedom.

And a small excerpt. I'm not calling it a tease...it's not teasing, it's hitting home hard and read and take note...

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, or if you have questions about abuse, please call 1-866-331-9474 or visitwww.loveisrespect.org

Excerpt:
My eyelids closed as if they were being drawn down by sluggish, unhurried weights. When I forced them open after several seemingly endless moments, nothing had changed. I could still make out a blurry image of Josh standing nearby, Mr. Thompson's hands clenched firmly on Josh's shoulders from behind. There was a crowd, I think, and muffled voices. The steel school locker felt cold against my back and I recognized the familiar feeling that lately seemed to just dwell and ache in my bones. Fear, I think it was, mixed with just enough madness to keep the blood racing through my veins … fast. Too fast.
"Why did you do that, Andrea?" Josh shouted in my direction.
My eyes fell closed again. I don't remember what else he said. I just remember the feeling of each overly pronounced syllable piercing the air while he said it. I stared through the darkness that danced behind my heavy eyelids. What had I done?
I tried to pry open my hazy eyes to examine the faces of the expanding crowd as they stood, mouths agape. I only recognized a few. There were hardcover music books sprawled open on the tile floor at my feet. Confused, I looked to Josh, but the heavy silence of the room deafened any words he may have been saying. I gripped the ends of my soft, thin hair between my slender fingers and waited. Each thought sunk deeper than the last.
There was a poster taped sloppily against the locker behind me. I turned my head to face it and focused. The ends were curled up and there were ripples in the masking tape adorned to the edges. "Oakwood High School Invitational—TONIGHT" it read in handwritten purple block letters. There was a pixelated saxophone image pasted underneath the words, "Brought to you by Mr. Thompson and the Oakwood High Jazz Band." I brought my hand up to trace the edges. The poster board felt crisp and thick under my fingertips. I could smell the aftermath of the permanent marker. The loud reverberating voice behind me got softer until it resembled a deep echo I could easily ignore. I started to pick at the tape from the bottom left corner of the poster until I felt the sticky residue ball up underneath my fingernail.
Suddenly the life reentered my body in one abrupt breath when I felt a strong tug on my arm. I turned and saw Ethan Marks. Everyone else was gone. Had it been minutes this time? Hours?
"Andrea! Come on," he barked at me, interlacing my arm, tucking it quickly under his. He jerked me to a standing position and pulled me down the hall, speeding up his gate as I stumbled to catch up.
"Where's Josh?" I asked worriedly, but he didn't answer. We were silent as we walked through the empty hallway. I lifted my gaze, trying to catch Ethan's eye, trying to read his thoughts. His light blue eyes, usually sparkling with laughter, were steely and somber as he charged forward, dragging me with him, away from the wreckage I'd caused.
He stopped short and took a deep breath. His eyes were unyielding and dismal as they studied me, and slowly his frustration melted into a deep sadness.
"What happened, Andrea? What was that back there?"
"I don't know..." My voice began breaking. My thoughts were muddled beyond recognition and I couldn't form the right words, or any words, to explain.
Ethan wrapped himself around me in a gentle, firm embrace. It felt kind. And warm. And wonderfully different. My muscles unclenched for the first time in months, and I didn't know I was crying until I tasted the salt as it stained my face. I buried my head into Ethan's chest as he tightened his hold on me. I wanted him to say something, to tell me everything would be all right, but we both knew better. So we just stood there, Ethan supporting me as I clasped the back of his cotton t-shirt between my fingers.
After a few minutes, I fully returned to my body as my breathing calmed. I steadied my stance and took a step backward, shakily holding Ethan's forearms as I regained my balance. Wiping smudged mascara from my pale face, I met Ethan's eyes and quickly looked down, fixating on a crack in the tile below me.
"Hey," he started, "Andrea ... it's..."
"I'm okay. Ethan, I'm sorry. I'm sorry you had to ... I'm sorry I ... ugh your shirt." I motioned to the tear stains on his light green tee that crept from his chest to his shoulder.
"Oh God, don't worry about that. Andie, I just..."
"It's fine." I wiped my face and took a deep breath. "Thanks," I said, squeezing Ethan's hand and looking in his eyes sincerely, so he knew I meant it. "I should go. But thanks." I shook my head and turned around to walk back into the havoc and face what I had done. I felt Ethan staring at me as I left. He was just another person whose life would've been better if he hadn't met me. I swallowed, took a breath, and kept walking.
It was over for now, that latest incident, and there was no way to tell when there would be another one … but there would definitely be another one. I was too broken for it to be any other way.

Phew Compelling reading,
love Raven xx

#NineForTheWeekend with Beth D Carter The world of Danger and...Invincible

Hi all welcome to Nine For The Weekend, where this week, my guest is Beth D Carter with nine fantastic random facts about herself.

(I'm particularly envious this week)

2) I’ve sat on David Prowse’s lap…if you don’t recognize the name, he was the original Darth Vader. I was able to attend with him the re-release of Star Wars in 1997, when they remastered it and put it back into theaters.

3) My family moved my senior year of high school, from Missouri to Delaware. This caused me to graduate from the same high school my mother graduated from 25 years before me.

4) As a huge Sci-fi mega geek, I got the fantastic opportunity to visit Paramount Studios and explore the Star Trek Voyager set during the episode "Vis Ă  Vis".

5) I’ve been fortunate to travel throughout Europe and have gone from Dover England to Calais France by both ferry and Eurotunnel.

6) I’ve visited New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Finland, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, Monaco, Spain, and the Vatican.

7) Just to further cement my sci-fi nerdhood, my wedding anniversary will be May the 4th (be with you)!

8) I write under my name of Beth D. Carter, but I also have a super-secret penname, and combined I’ve written over sixty books (combining anothologies, novellas and full length).

9) By day I’m a pharmacy tech and have worked twenty-eight years in the medical field. I’ve been a surgical tech, a histotech, as well as a medical assistant. I write on the weekends and whenever I have a moment or two to think about what I’m working on.

It's Tuesday and time for me to hand over  my blog to a guest.

Today, Erika Reed is my guest and she's here and telling us all about Men of Inferno

Kasey Mcintyre, her cousin, and her best friend are visiting the town of Inferno, California. They’re just there to watch Kasey’s dads recognition ceremony at the local firehall, but there’s trouble kindling for the three of them and it’s going to stop them from enjoying their visit.

Brothers Zach, Jake, and Cody Kelly feel their libidos ignite when Kasey’s car almost collides with their fire engine. The three brothers always knew they’d find the right woman to share, just as they always knew that they’d be raising their future family here in Inferno, where their chosen lifestyle would be accepted and respected.

The Kelly boys believe that Kasey is the woman for them, so when the situation heats up and burns out of control, they’ll stop at nothing to protect the woman they have all come to love. It’s going to take love, trust, and courage for the four new lovers to discover the truth and find out who is after Kasey...and why.
