#TantalizingTuesdays... Flash fiction... The Shoes

The shoes

They say shoes can change your life.
Geraldine didn't know if that was true or not, but she had to try.
She looked at them from every angle. Ordinary…well ordinary-ish. Silver, glittery, high, oh so high, and calling to her.
You said you wanted to fly. You're ready to come to me. It's time.
Slowly, almost without breathing, she slipped her feet into them and stood for a second, to get her balance.
His voice surrounded her. Soft as a summer breeze, enticing as a the scent of spring flowers, it called to her, helped her walk toward…
Look down love. Look down and believe.
She did as she was told.
The tiny wings unfurled from each shoe and she rose into the upward, as graceful as any dancer.
The air danced and rainbows shimmered as she flew.
"I'm coming."
Ahead of her the sky darkened, but she wasn't scared. It welcomed her, welcomed her home and to where he was waiting.
It was their time.
Lightening split the sky, and those tiny wings beat ever faster.
Hurry, hurry love, get here to me. Let's show them who we are.
The lightening hit her and she screamed.
"I will succeed…I…"

Nash. Is that enough?

Me No not really, but I love research.

#SexySnippets and Cecy...

Cecilia's Claim...

well it is on offer on Amazon at 99c or 77p (but not for long)

His fingers caressed the soft skin around her slender joint, and Cecy shivered as his touch sent tingles of pleasure through her.

If his hands on my ankles can make my curls damp, what would his fingers elsewhere do to me once more? It seemed her senses hadn't forgotten the delight of his touch any more than her memory had.

His laugh did nothing to help dampen her excitement—deep and rumbling, it increased the shards of pleasure that bombarded her. How could she be so excited by so little—was she so easily pleased? Her juices increased and Cecy squirmed against Philippe. The sharp tap to her behind did nothing to quench the heat that filled her; quite the opposite.

Read and Like Saturday with Faberge Nostromo

Take it away Faberge...

What I read and what I like –

Point 1: Say aaaaaaah –
All those things that were shoved down your throat as a teenager that had to be read to get you through exams - I hated that. So I left school and my teens knowing that Jane Austen and Dickens were distant lands I would never go near, having managed to blag my way through without actually reading a word.
Apart from Alexander Pope’s Rape Of The Lock – I loved it. No-one else seemed to. I still don’t understand what it was about it that touched me, but I stole the poetry anthology it was in from the school library and I still have it – as well as on my Kindle. And that was the end of literature for me... or so I thought.
And when I say ‘blag my way through’, I mean I was expelled but, well...

Point 2:  a Kindle lit my fire –
And then my reading platform (anyone guess that I’m also an IT consultant?) changed: getting a Kindle revolutionised my reading.
Up until then I was a creature of habit – and a very limited habit at that. Comfort reads that went from the Hobbit to the Odyssey were my staple diet. Occasionally I’d grab hand-me-downs from Mrs Nostromo’s book group and because of that I read The Help, which is excellent, The Poisonwood Bible, which is great and The Red Tent which really is up there as possibly the best book I’ve ever read.
Now I have a device that fits in my pocket and on it I have all of Shakespeare, all of Sherlock Holmes, the Bible, the Quran, Milton, Jane Austen, Dickens and two dozen Breathless Press books (one of which I wrote).

Point 3: Paradise not so lost –
Someone dared suggest I read Milton. Don’t they sterilise baby milk, I asked? Anyway, it was cheap on Amazon so I thought, why not?
O M actual G. How amazing is that language? It’s like a rare steak, in the richest cream sauce; it’s the deepest, widest sticky toffee pudding ever on a sea of custard. It drips with words and phrases that have to be re-read and then again out loud, savoured and then swallowed, eyes closed and sighing.
And what a paradox – Satan is resolute, determined, a role model of tenacity and true grit whereas the other guy is a spoilt, whining, elitist, soft boy riding high on daddy’s clout and with nothing of his own to offer. And the absurd punishment dished out to a woman who dared ask a question!
And I now know what an iambic pentameter is. Thanks, John.

Point 4: It is a truth not properly universally acknowledged –
That Jane Austen is wickedly funny. The biting wit, the scathing social observations, the slow burning sentences that draw you in and then once they’ve got you deliver a knockout punch. And again with the language – fabulous.
Then I realised that all the TV and film adaptations smothered in period costumes and enormous sets were missing the point. At no point does Jane Austen describe a single frock, hairstyle or drawing room decor. She’s writing the sharpest soap opera ever. She’s not interested in Mr Darcy’s tight breeches or Elizabeth Bennett’s expansive empire line – she is mercilessly deriding the pride and prejudice she sees around her and, oh lord, is she a minx.
You know the saying - if you haven’t got something nice to say then... come and sit by me? Then read Jane Austen.

Point 5: If you thought that was funny –
Charles Dickens – possibly the funniest writer ever. With knobs on. I had very low expectations of Pip and Miss Havisham but more or less straight away I wanted to run out and shout ‘Why did no-one tell me? This is brilliant – I am actually laughing out loud’.
Who the Dickens thought that it was best to force feed this to kids as something proper and worthy that must be read or you will not have had a decent eddycayshun, young man?
I didn’t want no decent education. I wanted a laugh. I wanted someone to parody the nonsense all around me, who I could laugh with at the absurdity of it all.
And he was there all the time on the bookshelf. Cheers, Chuck - sorry it took so long to find you.

Point 6: never judge a book by its film –
I thought Gone With The Wind was an epic. The width and splendour of it, the houses, the costumes and sets, the burning of Atlanta... then I read the book.
The film is a titchy little cartoon compared to the enormity of Margaret Mitchell’s creation. The book is a mile wider than the film, a thousand fathoms deeper and packed with more colour than Mr Technicolor could handle.
That’s when an enormous penny dropped with me. Films just can’t hack it when it comes to plot and characters that live and breathe and leap off the page and into your heart.
Treat the film of the book as a teaser for what the book may actually be about.
I’ve just finished The Great Gatsby. I love Baz Luhrmann’s films – I adored Strictly Ballroom and could watch Moulin Rouge over and over – and, yes, the sweeping aerial shots of a CGI New York and are impressive but, sozz Baz – the book is about the prose, the gorgeous, edible prose. The visuals you create in your head, yours aren’t the same as mine.

How to make friends and influence people...

or at least not piss them off.

1, Remember life is a two way street, in every way. Be it sharing your last, round, caramel-filled chocolate, or moaning about the bus driver/rate bill or the cost of coffee. It's not always just you who shares and them there others take. Or vice versa. Share and share alike.

2, We all have bad days and need a hug. Friends are there to be the hugger, unequivocally. And they do it, over and over again. (thank you guys for all those hugs.) So if they have a heeby-jeeby-quivering mass of mush day, remember this time you need to do the hugging. I love the fact I can give a little of that love back. So never be afraid to ask eh?

3, Spiders are not sent just to freak you out. Even though they mepaphorically wave their legs and stick their tongues out at you.

4, A negative comment isn't necesarily directed at you. What makes you think that? Mind you neither is a postive one. but if the cap fits...

5, Not everyone likes pizza. Or cheese (puke) or even wine. (Seriously, not like wine? Weird.) We're all different, and all have our own strengths and weaknesses. One persons strength etc etc

6, Try to remember that some people are half empty glass people and others half full.  That's life.

7, If you're a writer, oh lucky lucky you. And you've been accepted? Even luckier. Do you know how many people want to be in your shoes. Edits are a way of knowing you're on the road to your dream. Don't moan and ask why if they're needed did the publisher contract you. Hells bells, that publisher has faith in you, and is helping you hone and polish your work. If you can't be bothered, then tell the publisher you're not interested. Pull your book, and let someone who will work to improve thier baby have your spot instead. Then don't moan. Put up or shut up, and if that sounds harsh... it is!

8, Remember everyone is an individual. Some love red, some hate it. Some want an apple others want oranges. Some will love your book and yeah, you've got it, some will hate it. It might make you want to throw things but hey, that's life. And better love or hate than indifference eh?

9, oh and ( 8 ) applies to more than your book. Substitue anything you want in there. Your hair your car, your chair, your other half. Pull up your panties (boxers/thongs/y-fronts) and deal with it. Or as my kids used to say, build a bridge and get over it.

10, Don't shoot the messenger, like I said one person opinion etcetera...

Have a good weekend :)

Love, R x

Want to be Trained for Seduction...

Oh, yes please...

Over to you Mia...

Hi, I’m Mia Downing! I just released the third book from the Spy Games series and I love writing erotic romance. It’s fun to give the characters angst and drama to work through and then get to use the sex scenes to further develop their romance. In real life I’m fairly boring—married for 18 years, have two kids and a small farm. Don’t pity me—I like my life the way it is. I get enough outside excitement from the books I write!
To celebrate the release of Spy Games: Endgame to Amazon, The Wild Rose Press is graciously offering for sale the first two books in the Spy Games series. The sale is taking place at all distributors! Now is the time to get a jump on this great series.
The Wild Rose Press is offering my back list of books on sale for 50% until Friday, August 16! Click the link above to visit my page there!

Book 1 of the Spy Games Series! $.99 at all distributors!
Emma Walters didn't choose to be a spy, but when her crazy father was caught selling bombs to the wrong people, she was given a choice--become a spy or rot in jail. Her exciting new life as agent Kate Wells becomes more so when she discovers her new boss is the agent--undercover and investigating her father at the time--who took her to third base. Emma is already half in love with the dark and dangerous Chase Sanders. Kate wants nothing more than for him to finish what he started, but he's the devil incarnate. And one doesn't make deals or fall in love with the devil.
If someone had told Chase he'd fall in love with a certain virgin when he was on his last mission, he would have shot them dead, sniper style. She was nothing more than collateral damage, damn it. But watching the sexy new spy morph into a bombshell killing machine is too much to bear. So when the powers that be command him to train her in the art of seduction for her first--and possibly last--mission, he's scared witless. Making love to Kate means preparing her for sex with another man.
Somehow, Chase has to find a way to get Kate in--and out--of her mission without dying. And without falling in love.
This book is an erotic romance. It contains graphic language, explicit, smokin' hot sex, ménage, lots of juicy conflict, some suspense, a dark and dangerous spy boss and a spunky bombshell heroine.

Here’s a little excerpt from Spy Games: Trained for Seduction if I haven’t convinced you yet!
Excerpt:
“I guess it’s time for…you know. Dinner’s over.”
He frowned, and for once she could see the wheels turning behind his brown eyes. “How about I make you a deal?”
“A deal with the devil is never productive.” He grinned, and she sighed. “Tell me.”
“We have all weekend, and I’m a very compassionate, very patient man. What you lack in your life is control. I’m going to give you control over when we make love. It’s your call. I will wait patiently until you can’t resist my charms any longer.”
Control. She liked that idea, because he was right. The only things that were keeping her from jumping him now were the facts that she had to be here and she was scared as hell. If this were a date, she’d still be scared as hell, but she’d be more than willing to make the leap. “What happens if we make it to Sunday night and it hasn’t happened?”
“Then we have a problem. But I have faith in my seduction skills. It didn’t take much to get you hot for me before. I don’t need until Sunday night.”
“Ego, Chase, ego,” she whispered. But that offer took an incredible amount of stress from her, and she heaved a sigh of relief. “So how will you continue charming me?”
“Well, we have dishes to do, and since you cleaned your plate, I promised you a movie.”
“I’d like that. I haven’t really watched much in the past year.”
“Neither have I. So we’ll make popcorn, and sit on the couch, and if you’re a very good girl, I’ll let you hold my hand.”
She thought of his hand in hers, those long fingers caressing hers. She bit her lip. A deal with the devil was definitely not a good thing. “And if I’m a bad girl?”
The ego returned, and he smiled a devilish smile. “Then we won’t need to worry about Sunday.”
