Annie Seaton on readin' writin' and 'rithmetic... and a giveway

Welcone Annie, to a damp dreich Scotland. Grab a chair, pick a dram and lets chat...

Posting a blog on a UK author’s site made me consider t the differences in readership in different countries. And how we cater for the needs of our readers?
The phenomena of globalisation and digital technologies have seen a massive change in mind sets of readers and writers. The market is now global, however an analysis of book sales shows different markets for different books in English speaking countries. Here, I am talking predominantly about the Untied States, United Kingdom and Australia...the three markets I know...having turned into an OCD statistics checker since Holiday Affair was released in March this year.
It is interesting...despite the trope, an author is supported predominantly by readers in the country in which they reside and write.
Is it a cultural thing? In the days of globalisation and online buying through an international digital bookstore what is the key to selling across countries?

I did some research on popular tropes in different countries with no real data coming to light,
So how does an author become successful across different markets in this day and age?

Some tips for creating a brand globally
·         Set up a twitter, Facebook and Goodreads account
·         Choose your followers carefully eg readers, writers, editors, publishers
·         Tweet frequently. Keep your tweets short, personal and interesting. Your readers like to know about you.
·         Create a personal blog
·         Blog regularly, there is nothing worse than going to a blog that is not current and guest blog and reciprocate
·         Find your voice in your social networking.
·         Comment regularly on other’s blogs
·         Leave your opinion on third party sites

What are your thoughts on personal branding? Does anyone have any more tips or experiences they would like to share? Best comment will win a giveaway of my latest novel Summer of the  Moon Flower.
One lucky person will be chosen after 'the bells' at new year

Annie Seaton lives on the beautiful east coast of Australia, where she loves sitting in her writing chair, gazing at the ocean and writing stories. She has always been fascinated by all things historical and has found her niche writing romance, ranging from contemporary, paranormal and a foray into steampunk, where strong heroines and brooding heroes fight together to make their alternative world a better place!
Her debut full length novel, Holiday Affair, a contemporary romance set in the South Pacific was released as part of Entangled Publishing’s Indulgence line in March and has been a best seller on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The sequel Italian Affair is currently in edits. Watch out for the story of Tom and Brianna, the sex therapist who spices up his life! Outback Affair will follow soon.
Winter of the Passion Flower was released early in 2012. The second book in the sereis Summer of the Moon Flower will be released on 21st December. Check out the adventures of Sofia and her Scottish laird.
Annie is already looking forward to the rest of the series, particularly the adventures of Indigo’s four boys: Jago and Jory, Ruan and Kit. Strong sassy heroines and rebellious heroes have a rollicking good time as they work to make the world a better place--albeit their own steampunk world.
Blind Lust, a paranormal novella was released in June 2012.
Annie has recently been contracted for more books with Entangled Publishing- first up is a romantic suspense called A Passionate Deal
Annie lives with her husband, and ‘Bob’ the dog and two white cats, in a house next to the beach in a small coastal town of New South Wales. Their two children are grown and married and she loves spending time gardening, walking on the beach and spoiling her two grandchildren.

  1. Tip for social networking/branding -
I find twitter and facebook to be relatively painless and will stick with those on a reglar basis. Of course, I do diversify at times, but feel if i try to pull myself thinly over several social networks etc, it feels too much like a chore. Only stick with what you're comfortable with, as it really does come across in your actions.

Love the cover of the new release, btw!

  2. I enjoyed reading your post. Lots of great advice. But I find it hard to keep all the balls in the air. Time is never enough or maybe I need to be more disciplined?

  3. Helpful advice, thanks :)
I find the blog hops have directed the most traffic to my site, and Goodreads and Pinterest are a great way to get new followers too.
